Anchorage Digital Joins Hashi as a Day 1 Launch Partner

TL;DR:
- Anchorage Digital is a Day 1 launch partner for Hashi, Sui's native Bitcoin finance infrastructure, ahead of mainnet later this month.
- Clients get two routes in: tri-party collateral through Atlas, and direct access through Porto, self-custody.
- Bitcoin held in Qualified Custody with a federally chartered bank can be mobilized as collateral without being sold.
Today, Anchorage Digital, home to the first federally regulated crypto bank in the U.S., is announcing that it has joined Hashi, Sui’s financial primitive for Bitcoin finance, as a Day 1 launch partner. Hashi goes live on Sui mainnet later this month in a phased rollout, with more than $500 million in capital commitments from a launch coalition of more than 20 of crypto’s biggest heavyweights.
Institutions and public companies hold more than $1 trillion in Bitcoin, and most of it sits idle. Using native BTC in programmable markets has meant giving up the custody and compliance protections institutions operate under. Hashi is built to remove that tradeoff, and Anchorage Digital is providing two routes in.
How Hashi works
Bitcoin deposited into Hashi remains secured on the Bitcoin network, while Sui smart contracts facilitate its use as collateral. hBTC is minted on Sui against the deposited BTC and can be used across applications built by third parties. On exit, hBTC is burned and native BTC is released back on Bitcoin.
“Public companies and institutions hold enormous amounts of Bitcoin, but their ability to use that capital has been constrained by the technology available to them and the limitations of the DeFi space. Connecting our institutional clients with Hashi represents a complete paradigm shift and maturation of Bitcoin finance, and we’re thrilled to be at the center of it.” —Nathan McCauley, CEO and Co-Founder, Anchorage Digital
The practical effect: BTC never leaves the Bitcoin network, and the position a client holds is the same one they held before it was put to work.
Hashi launches with a coalition of more than 20 custodians, liquidity providers, wallets, infrastructure companies, and protocols. Anchorage Digital's role in that coalition is the one we have played since 2017: the regulated point of entry for institutions that cannot compromise on custody.
“Bitcoin has already become a global reserve asset, and today, the financial infrastructure around it is catching up. Hashi is launching with serious capital and a coalition of industry leaders because institutions want to put Bitcoin to work without giving up the protections they require.” —Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui
Two routes for institutional clients
Tri-party collateral through Atlas. For institutions operating under strict qualified custody and compliance requirements, including publicly traded companies with Bitcoin on their balance sheets and digital asset treasury companies that cannot access DeFi directly today, Atlas provides a route into Hashi through Anchorage Digital's settlement and tri-party collateral infrastructure. Assets stay in qualified custody while being mobilized as collateral.
Direct access through Porto, self-custody. For clients who want direct access to the Hashi ecosystem. Porto, our institutional self-custody wallet, provides a second route into Hashi and the applications built on it. That suits crypto-native funds, hedge funds, miners, market makers, and liquidity providers who prioritize speed and capital efficiency and are comfortable operating self-directed strategies.
