Anchorage Digital Adds Support for Etherlink, Expanding Institutional Access to Tokenized Real-World Assets

TL;DR: Institutional clients can now custody Etherlink-based assets at Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. including xU3O8, tokenized physical uranium.

Anchorage Digital now supports Etherlink, the Tezos layer-2 network, alongside an initial set of Etherlink-based assets. Institutional clients can now hold these assets with Anchorage Digital Bank, America’s first federally regulated crypto bank.

Commodities, treasuries, and credit are increasingly being issued onchain today, and the binding constraint has moved from issuance to custody. Funds, asset managers, and trading firms are not asking whether a commodity can be represented onchain, they are asking who can hold it under the standards they require.

What's newly available

Anchorage Digital clients can now custody the following assets on Etherlink:

  • xU3O8: tokenized physical uranium
  • WXTZ: wrapped XTZ, the native asset of Tezos
  • stXTZ:  a liquid staking token representing staked XTZ
  • USDT: Tether's US dollar stablecoin
  • USDC: Circle’s US dollar stablecoin
  • USDSM: Stable Mint's US dollar stablecoin
  • WETH: wrapped ether

Support is delivered through the same infrastructure institutions already use for the rest of their Anchorage Digital holdings: segregated custody accounts held at a federally chartered bank, with policy-based controls and no change to existing operational workflows.

Why tokenized uranium matters

The global race for frontier technologies, is fundamentally a race for critical minerals and rare earth elements. As data centers multiply and industrial grids modernize, the securing of strategic materials has shifted from a supply chain afterthought to a primary driver of geopolitical and economic advantage. Global electricity demand is accelerating, driven by AI data centers, electrification, and the clean energy transition. Nuclear power sits at the center of that story, and uranium is the fuel that makes it possible.

Yet uranium is one of the least accessible commodities in institutional markets. Physical exposure has historically meant navigating a small set of specialist intermediaries, long settlement cycles, and minimum sizes that put the asset out of reach for most allocators. Tokenization compresses that: xU3O8 gives investors a direct, efficient way to participate in the commodity underpinning that growth, allowing an allocator to take exposure in the same operational motion as any other digital asset, with transfer and settlement measured in minutes rather than weeks.

The novelty of the asset is exactly what raises the standard for whoever holds it. Unfamiliar collateral draws more scrutiny from auditors, fund administrators, and lenders rather than less, and all of that scrutiny lands on the custodian.

"Institutions are not short on interest in tokenized real-world assets. They are short on places to hold them that satisfy a risk framework. Adding Etherlink support means an allocator looking at tokenized uranium or onchain dollars can hold those assets at a federally chartered bank, with the same controls they already apply to the rest of their portfolio.”—Nathan McCauley, CEO and Co-Founder, Anchorage Digital

Etherlink and the RWA issuance stack

Etherlink is the EVM-compatible layer built on Tezos, offering low-cost, fast-finality execution while settling to Tezos layer 1. For issuers building tokenized real-world assets, that combination: familiar EVM tooling, predictable costs, and a settlement layer with a long operating history, has made it an increasingly common choice.

For institutions, the practical upshot is straightforward: assets issued on Etherlink can be evaluated on their own merits rather than on the operational risk of the chain underneath them.

"Tokenized real-world assets only reach institutional balance sheets if institutions can hold them properly. Working with Anchorage Digital means the funds and asset managers evaluating assets on Etherlink can custody them at a federally chartered bank, which removes the single biggest obstacle we hear from allocators."—Ben Elvidge, Head of Alternative Assets, Trillitech

With Etherlink support live, an allocator can go from evaluating a tokenized commodity to holding it without ever leaving a federally chartered bank.

Existing clients can access these assets today. To learn more about custody of Etherlink-based assets, get in touch with our team or reach out to your Anchorage Digital relationship manager.
